Mumbai, January 07: The Maharashtra BJP today accused union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar of fuelling price rise and sought his resignation.
“It is his (Pawar’s) duty to ensure that spiralling prices are brought under control. Instead, he is making statements that prices of sugar will not come down over the next two years,” BJP’s state unit Spokesman Madhav Bhandari told reporters.
Bhandari charged that Pawar’s statements were aimed at further fuelling rise in prices of essential commodities and benefiting sugar barons, black marketeers and hoarders.
“The Cricket World cup is scheduled for 2011 and he should keep himself free for that if he is unable to bring down the prices of essential goods,” he said, adding since Pawar also headed food and civil supplies and consumer protection departments it was his responsibility to control the prices.
