Pawar to decide Goa’s next NCP chief

Panaji, December 10: The decision on who will be the next Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Goa chief would be taken by party president Sharad Pawar, its officials said today.

NCP which completed its election process for the district level and state executive committee has requested Pawar to decide on the final name to head the party organisation in the state.

“Sharad Pawar will take the decision. We believe in consensus democracy,” NCP?s Goa unit acting chief Dr Carmo Pegado told reporters today.

Dr Pegado is holding the charge as chief after former party unit president Dr Wilfred de Souza resigned en-mass along with several other executive committee members.

Dr D’Souza had quit the party in June 2009 demanding that the NCP be merged with Congress as it has no standing as an independent entity.

Pegado told reporters today that he along with Jitendra Deshprabhu, a senior leader, were front runners for the post.
