Patiala: In wake of several incidents, including criminal activities in Patiala, the district administration has imposed a ban on covering faces with any cloth by two-wheeler rider and pillion rider, a senior official said on Saturday.
The district administration has imposed a ban on covering faces with any cloth by two-wheeler rider and pillion under section 144 of the CrPC and these orders will remain in force for two months.
The decision has been taken to prevent any criminal activity by miscreants who try to hoodwink the law and enforcement agencies by covering their faces.
“The ban has been imposed in the wake of several incidents in which miscreants indulging in criminal activities, were found to be covering their faces,” Patiala Deputy Commissioner Ramvir said.
Patiala traffic police also carried out a drive today against violators of the order.
Significantly, most of girls and women on two-wheelers often cover their faces with dupattas for protection against dust and sun while riding. Boys also cover their faces with handkerchief to protect themselves from dust.
Several cities like Amritsar, Ludhiana Jalandhar and Ropar have already imposed ban on covering faces by two-wheelers drivers and pillions.
Notably, two bikers who had shot RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja in Jalandhar had their faces covered with cloth and their identities could not be established so far.
