Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today promised to bring back past glory to historic Hussain Sagar.
During a review meeting with officials concerned at Secretariat here on Wednesday, Harish Rao said efforts will be made to cleanse Tank Bund by preventing storm and dirty waters coming from outside. Giving a pat to the GHMC for submitting the best report to protect the lake from pollution, he said efforts will be made to protect the pond. The meeting was aimed at increasing ground water level to prevent future problems, the minister maintained. He said check dams and watersheds will be constructed at villages which have more number of bore wells. He also said the government will allocate adequate funds to Groundwater department for strengthening by filling vacant posts.
Harish Rao also said ground water wing was asked to expedite steps to increase ground water table besides conducting reviews with related wings once three months. He recalled that he urged Union Minister Uma Bharathi to allocate Rs 240 crore for Hydraulic-3 of works. (NSS)
