Passengers aboard the AC coach of the Tamil Nadu Express were robbed off their jewellery, cash among others during the wee hours today near Farah station near Mathura-Agra border, police said.

“Around four bandits, believed to have boarded the Chennai-bound Tamil Nadu Express from New Delhi last night, started robbing the passengers near Farah station, when most of them were asleep.

“One of the passengers Ram Kumar Garg and his wife, travelling in the AC II coach of the train, reported that they resisted their attempt and sustained injuries but were robbed off,” Superintendent of Police (Railway) D K Khanna said.

They told the police that their rings, chains, gold watches and cash worth lakhs had been looted, the SP added.

The robbers escaped from the train after pulling alarm chain at Raipura Jat, near Farah falling under Mathura administration of North Central Railway, the police said.

The victim family, which was returning to Chennai from a wedding in New Delhi, got down at Agra Cantt station around 2 A.M. and lodged a complaint there, from where the case was transferred to Mathura, Government Railway Police (GRP) said.

The family, which sustained injuries, was “consoled, provided first aid and sent to Chennai,” Khanna said adding that a probe has been launched in the case.

Meanwhile, Mathura SP Shailesh Pandey has assured cooperation to GRP and ordered probe in the case.
