Four persons traveling in Chennai-Secunderabad Charminar Express were allegedly relieved of their gold ornaments in Prakasam district.
According to an SCR spokesman, one of the robbers, also traveling in the train, pulled the chain at around 11.30 pm on Saturday night and stopped the train when it reached Uppugunduru-Raparla railway station. Immediately, an eight-member gang gate-crashed into the train and looted the passengers traveling in S-3, S-4, S-5, S-6, S-7 and S-8. As there were no Railway Police personnel in the train, the criminals terrorized the hapless passengers and looted them in half-an-hour.
The victims lodged complaints with the police at Vijayawada. On Sunday morning, four passengers complained about the robbery to Government Railway Police at Secunderabad station. About 70 grams of gold jewellery was estimated to have been robbed. (NSS)
