All-party meet of Rajya Sabha leaders ends

New Delhi : The all-party meeting of Rajya Sabha leaders, which was called by Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari ahead of the Budget session, ended here on Saturday.

During the meeting the Government conveyed to the Opposition that they are willing to discuss all issues in the Budget session.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, MoS Minority Affairs M.A. Naqvi, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Naresh Gujral, Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja, among others.

The meeting was held amid possibilities of a turbulent Budget session, with opposition planning to corner the ruling government on several issues such as JNU row and Dalit student’s suicide in Hyderabad University.

Rajya Sabha, where the government lacks majority, witnessed repeated disruptions in the Monsoon and Winter sessions with Congress and several other opposition parties blocking several key Bills and reform measures of the government. (ANI)
