‘Parties should ask rank and file to eschew violence’

Kochi, April 12: Kerala High court today expressed hope that political parties will ask its rank and file to eschew violence for ensuring peaceful and fair elections in the state tomorrow.

The observation was made by a Division bench, comprising Justices R Basant and K Surendra Mohan, while considering a batch of petitions by candidates of different constituencies seeking police protection.

The Election Commission had informed the court that 40 companies of paramilitary force and 44 companies of state police force will be deployed in the state for peaceful conduct of the April 13 polls.

Live web-casting will be done in polling booths which were identified as vulnerable. Polling stations will be viewed by district election officers, Chief Electoral officer and Election Commission of India.

Entire proceedings in identified booths would be recorded and photos of all voters who enter the polling station will be taken.
