Parties marshalling their arguments

Hyderabad, January 04: With the all-party meeting on Telangana taking place in Delhi on January 5, leaders of the eight political parties which have been invited to talks are busy preparing their line of arguments.

According to informed sources, the Congress has finalised the names of Huzurnagar MLA N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Eluru MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao. Though PCC president D Srinivas has left for Delhi, he said he would not be representing the party at the talks and that he was visiting Delhi now on some other work. But the principal Opposition party in the State, Telugu Desam, has not yet decided on whom to depute to Delhi.

As has been evident from the beginning, Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and his party’s idealogue Prof K Jayashankar will attend the meeting. Both have already left for Delhi.

Party leaders said that the party leadership would a build strong case for Telangana with the help of documents to impress the Central Government and all the political parties on the need for a separate Telangana State.

CPI State secretary K Narayana and CPI Legislature Party leader G Mallesh, who will be taking part in the Delhi meeting, said that they would forward their party’s National Council resolution on Telangana to the Union home ministry. The party strongly felt bifurcation of the State was the only solution to the tangle.

Urging the Central Government to stick to its statement on December 9 and complete the process to create Telangana state, Narayana said, “The Congress and TDP are facing serious political crises but the Central Government should consider policy decisions on Telangana issue.’’ He recalled his party’s demand in Parliament that the government convene an all-party meeting on Telangana and regretted that the government reacted very late. This landed the State in a political crisis, he noted.

CPM State secretary BV Ragahvulu and its MLA J Ranga Reddy will reiterate their stand on linguistic States and `expose’ the Congressled UPA Government `smaller States’ concept.’ BJP State president B Dattatreya and senior leader K Hari Babu will press for introduction of a Bill in Parliament in accordance with Article 3 of the Constitution paving the way for formation of Telangana State.
