Partial response to bandh call by Muslim outfits

Hyderabad, December 07: The bandh call given by some Muslim organisations on the occasion of the anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition evoked partial response in the Old City.

The day was observed as a Black Day by other organisations while it was celebrated as Vijay Divas by pro-Hindu organisations.

Tension prevailed for sometime at Moghulpura and Saidabad areas when some activists of Muslim organisations tried to take out rallies but were prevented and arrested by the police.

Majority of business establishments in the busy Gulzar Houz, Madina, Charminar remained shut for most part of the day. Prayers at the historic Mecca Masjid passed off peacefully.

Mild tension prevailed at the Darsgah Jehad-o-Shahadat (DJS) office at Mogulpura when its chief Mahboob Ali and his followers tried to take out a rally.

As a symbolic protest against the recent Allahabad High Court judgement, DJS activists burnt copies of the judgment and also a balance (tarazu).

They also tried to take out a rally. Earlier, Mahboob Ali earlier told reporters they would reconstruct the Babri Masjid at the disputed site at any cost.

Tension also prevailed at Saidabad with Tahreek Tahfooz Shaer-e-Islam (TTSI) taking out a rally, which included women and children, from the chief Moulana Naseeruddin’s house to a nearby mosque.

A huge police force, including Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed in the communally sensitive locality as a precautionary measure.

They later tried to take out a rally but were taken into preventive custody by police.

Nearly 30 activists were taken into custody and later released. According to police, nearly 500 persons were taken into preventive custody since last night.

Meanwhile, the protest planned by the Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) at Baghlingampally could not be taken up with police denying permission.

At the Majlis Bachao Tehreek’s office, mild tensions prevailed as party activists reportedly tried to take out a rally.

As the police denied them permission to take out a rally, a group of activists later went to meet the governor ESL Narasimhan and submitted a representation.
