Secondary Education Minister K Parthasarathy on Thursday filed a petition in the High Court against the conviction granted by the Special Court for Economic Offences in a FERA violation case.
The minister was awarded him two months simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5.15 lakh on the charges of violation of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act.
Admitting the petition, High Court Judge Justice Raja Elango posted the petition for hearing on Friday. In his petition, Parthasarathy claimed that he had suffered huge losses in the company due to lack of bank guarantee. However, the counsel of Enforcement Directorate observed that Parthasarathy filed petition in order to save his Minister’s post. Stating that the ED has imposed fine of Rs 3 lakh for violation of FERA, he asked as to why the Minister did not filed a petition against the orders of lower court.
After hearing both arguments, the Justice posted the petition for next hearing on Friday.
