New Delhi: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday asked the three services to review the pending acquisition proposals and weed out those which are no more relevant, an official said,
He gave the direction while chairing a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), where he reviewed progress of all proposals cleared by the council since the NDA government came to power.
“The defence minister advised the service chiefs to review their pending acquisition proposals which have not fructified for a long time for their contemporary relevance,” said a defence ministry official.
“The defence minister said we must progress only on relevant schemes. He also sought review of proposed capital acquisition proposals and budgetary requirement for next 10 years,” the official said.
The review of the proposals cleared by the DAC meanwhile revealed that there are at least 314 cases in which have not “fructified”.
“A total of 81 capital acquisition schemes have matured since June 2014,” the official said.
Maturing of an order means the contract has been signed or supply order has been given.
The cleared proposals cost around Rs.1,50,000 crore.
“The defence minister took note of the fact that despite concerted efforts to expedite procurement there still remain 314 cases which have not yet fructified.”
Of these, 86 cases worth approximately Rs.1,50,000 crore are close to the final stage of approval.
“The defence minister directed that all concerned should make concerted efforts to get these cases cleared in the next 4-5 months,” the official said, referring to the 86 cases.
