Visakhapatnam: A Rajya Sabha panel visited coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh onboard Indian Coast Guard ship Sagar here today to have a closer look and better appreciate coastal regulation zones.
According to a release issued by the Indian Navy here today, committee chairman T Subbarami Reddy and other members were accorded a warm welcome by Deputy Inspector General J S Sabharwal, the Coast Guard Commander, when they visited the Coast Guard jetty.
During the visit, the committee held talks on pollution control at sea and electronic waste management, the release said.
Committee members duly explained the role of the coast guard in controlling pollution at sea, the release said.
The committee was accompanied by various senior officials from the Andhra Pollution Control Board, the ministry of environment and forests as well as the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
