New Delhi, August 01: The Telangana MPs belonging to Congress and TRS parties, who had resigned in pursuance of their demand for separate Telangana state, abstained from attending parliament on the opening day of the monsoon session on Monday.
It might be mentioned here that 10 members from Congress and two from TRS have submitted their resignations from Lok Sabha and one Congress member Dr. K. Kesava Rao had resigned from Rajya Sabha.
All efforts by the Union Minister for Health Mr. Gulam Nabi Azad, who is also in-charge of Congress affairs in the state, during the last two days to convince the party MPs from the region to attend the parliament session proved futile. However a silver lining in dark cloud for the Congress came in the form of two party MPs Mr. Anjan Kumar Yadav ( Secunderabad) and Mr. Sarve Satyanarayana( Malkajgiri) who had refused to tender their resignations attended the session.
Even as both Houses of parliament were gearing up for the opening day of the monsoon session, the Telangana Congress MPs assembled at the residence of Rajya Sabha member Dr. Kesava Rao to discuss their plan of action during the monsoon session. Mr. Azad made a last minute bid to persuade the 11 MPs who had resigned to cooperate in attending the session. However, the MPs are learnt to have made it clear that only after a categorical announcement on Telangana state alone would ensure their attendance in both the Houses of parliament.
After passing the customary condolence resolutions to mourn the demise of former members, both the Houses adjourned for the day. Mr. Azad is expected to meet the Telangana MPs again in the evening to continue his efforts to make the members attend the session and leave the decision about their resignations to the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Chairman of Rajya Sabha.
Whether the Telangana Congress MPs stick to their guns during their meeting with Mr. Azad and await a decision of the Lok Sabha Speaker with regard to their resignations and then chalk out their future plan action has assumed keen interest in political circles. On the other hand the Seemandhra MPs opposing bifurcation of the state are likely to attend the session to make their voice heard. Will the Telangana MPs in that case try to counter them is the question being debated in political circles.
In the meantime the TRS as planned earlier has intensified its agitation programme by launching rasta rook all over the region demanding deletion of clause 14 F from the Presidential Order for conducting the SIU recruitment examinations. Traffic on main through fares in various districts and also on the national highways in the region were disrupted due to the agitation.
The OU Students JAC took out a massive rally from the campus to the busy Tarnaka junction and organized rasta rook .
The TDP Telangana Legislators Forum commenced a deeksha at the Indra Park demanding immediate steps to bifurcate the state.
