Paritala Ravi murder case accused Suri, shot dead in broad daylight

Hyderabad, January 4: Maddelacheruvu Suriya Narayana Reddy alias Suri, a prime accused in the murder of TDP leader Paritala Ravi was shot at in broad day light by his aide here on Monday. However, he succumbed to grievous injuries in the Apollo Hospital later.

Incident of murder in city’s strict security zone Banajara Hills has proved all the claims of police alert and strict bandobast as wrong.

The murder created stir in the area generally thought to be peaceful and secure and the police immediately declared high alert in Hyderabad and Anantpur.

It is quite perturbing that even as the elaborate security arrangements have been made across the twin cities in view of Srikrishna committee’s report and paramilitary forces have been deployed at various places to restrain any untoward incident, Suri has been shot dead in broad daylight.

Speaking to mediapersons at the Apollo Hospital, the City Police Commissioner, Mr A K Khan, said that Suri was shot at in the car by those accompanying him. He said that Suri was proceeding to his advocate’s house at 3.30 pm when the assailants shot him. Stating that the lone eye-witness to the gory crime was the driver, Mr Khan said that the man who was traveling along with Suri shot him at point blank range.

The Police chief said that the killer would be caught soon as special hunt teams were pressed into service.

Earlier, police said that two motorcycle-borne assailants had fired five rounds at Suri in Jubilee Hills, when he was going to Navodaya Colony in Yousufguda. According to the information, the assailants pumped bullets indiscriminately. Suri received injuries in his head, chest and abdomen. He was profusely bleeding and was unconscious when brought to the Apollo, hospital sources said. Some sources said that he had slipped into coma.

On hearing the news, the DCP, Mr Stephen Ravindra, rushed to the Apollo hospital and arranged tight security there. Mediapersons also rushed to the hospital in large numbers. Reports from Anantapur said that high alert was clamped on the district to scuttle any possible repercussions and counter attacks.

Suri, who has been serving sentence for the Jubilee Hills bomb blast has come out on bail. He has recently told the media that he has decided to shun faction violence and lead a peaceful life.

However, his opponents have reportedly tracked his movements, trapping his mobile phone and planned the attack and executed it with precision. Moddu Srinu, who has claimed to have murdered TDP leader Paritala Ravi has claimed that he had done it only to please Suri. Though Suri was in jail at the time of the murder of Ravi, he was booked as the prime accused in the case.
