Paris elects Anne Hidalgo as first female mayor

Paris has elected its first woman mayor Anne Hidalgo , who beat her centre-right rival Nathalie-Kosciuscko- Morzet.

The 54-year-old Socialist, who was expected to win at least 93 council seats to 70 for the centre-right, claimed 54.5 per cent of second round votes in the capital, the Independent reported.

Hidalgo has now joined an exclusive club of women who have taken charge of major cities around the world, like Ana Botella, the mayor of Madrid, Cape Town’s Patricia de Lille and Carolina Toha, who runs Santiago, Chile. (ANI)
