Paris, Brussels attackers wanted to target Euro 2016 football championship

Washington: ISIS terror suspect Mohamed Abrini, the last identified suspect at large from the Paris attacks, revelaled during his interrogation that the cell that carried out the deadly series of attack in the France and Brussels had their eye on the Euro 2016 soccer championships

Sources told CNN, that following Abrini’s claims, investigators are hard at work to verify his assertion

Also, a computer used by Brussels attackers Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui and found in a garbage bin outside the group’s bomb factory contained a file of research indicating La Defense shopping mall in Paris and a Catholic association were additional potential targets, the source said.

The Euro 2016 tournament, which is set to begin from June 10 in cities across France, is one of the biggest international sporting tournaments in the world.

In November, three suicide bombings were carried outside the French national stadium while Germany was playing France as the attackers reportedly tried but failed to get inside the stadium.

Abrini was one of six people detained in raids Friday across the Belgian capital following which it was confirmed that he was indeed the “man in the hat” on the surveillance video that went viral. (ANI)
