Parents urged to avoid illegal school vans

The Delhi government has asked all private schools in the city to urge parents to use “safe transport” provided by them and avoid “illegal vans” to send their wards to school.

In a circular issued by the Directorate of Education, the private schools have been warned against the illegal vans who flout rules by not adhering to permitted seating capacity, driving recklessly at high speeds.

“A majority of vehicles hired by parents to send their children to school operate without the adequate safeguards in place, thus jeopardizing their lives. Most of these vehicles are overloaded and ply recklessly at great speeds. There have been numerous instances of fatal accidents involving these vehicles wherein school children have lost their lives” said the circular.

“Though Delhi Traffic Police is making sustained efforts through education and enforcement, it’s of utmost importance that the school staff is also involved in sensitising the parents,” it said.

“Accordingly, the principals and managements of all private recognised schools are hereby directed to further exhort the parents to make use of safe transport provided by schools and abstain from sensing their children in illegal vans which can prove fatal.”
