Parents protest Princess Esin School fee hike

Hyderabad, June 09: The unabated increase in school fee is taking its toll on helpless parents who seem to have no option but to protest and fight for a rollback.

The Parents Ad-hoc Committee of Princess Esin Girls High School in Purani Haveli held a press meet at the APUWJ office, Basheerbagh in regard to the unjustified fee-enhancement and also about other issues pertaining to school management.

The parents of the school allege that in the last four years, the school has been increasing the fees by 30 per cent each year.

The average fee structure of the school was Rs 655 per month in 2006-07 but now stands at Rs 1,315 per month.

Ibrahim Khan, president, Ad-hoc Committee said: “The school is run by a non-profitable trust and the management does not have a satisfactory answer for the fee increase. They just want to amass wealth. Our repeated request not to hike the fees fell on deaf ears.

Hence we have approached the Human Rights Commission which has reserved the decision and will pronounce it soon.” Khan said that since the school management
followed the ICSE syllabus, it did not have to adhere to State Education Board’s policies and rules.

The parents said that since most of the students of this girls school are from the economically backward old city, the fee hike is proving to be burdensome for them.

“The management has just not been co-operative and communicative in this matter. The school authorities have also changed the uniform which was ridiculous and not needed,” felt Mir Mujahid, general secretary of the committee.

The committee is also unhappy about the collection of huge funds by the school authorities to admit students. The parents are awaiting the Human Rights Commission’s verdict.

If it is not in their favour, the committee will file a petition in High Court.
