Paramilitary forces arrive in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, december 25: The Central Para-military forces that have been requisitioned by the state government to tackle the situation likely to arise after submission of the Sri Krishna Committee report started arriving in Hyderabad today.

The state government has sought 50 companies of para-military forces, which includes the CRPF, CISF and BSF.

Police officials said nearly 10 teams arrived in the state capital. The remaining would be arriving in the next couple of days. The forces would leave for various districts shortly. “We are briefing them as to how to deal with the situation. They are being acclimatised,” a senior police official told Express.

The personnel were taken to the Assembly and Secretariat today to help them understand how the local police function. “We are also briefing them on what is required of them. They have been told not to open fire and not to use force on protestors,” the official said. According to officials, 18 companies of para-military forces will be deployed in Hyderabad alone, especially in and around Osmania University, which is the hotbed for pro-Telangana agitation. Five companies will be deployed in Cyberabad, two each in Karimnagar, Warangal, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Khammam, Medak and Vizag rural. Platoons of AP Special Police are also being dispatched to the districts while the district police forces are being trained to tackle the situation.

In Medak district, which has many industries, the police officials had a meeting with the industrialists and assured them of tight security. Patrolling has been intensified and the industrialists have been advised to take the services of private security guards as well. Of the two companies being deployed in Medak, one company will be stationed in Siddipet.

“Deployment of all forces will be done in the next four days,” police officials added.
