Panic grips Kadapa villagers

Kadapa, April 02: Clothes and books in shelves got mysteriously burnt in some houses in Uppparthivaripalle in Badvel mandal on Friday while four persons who slept in the foreyard of their houses were hurt when stones were pelted at them on Thursday night, making the villagers panicky. The villagers are planning to desert the village.

Police suspect that stone pelting could be the handiwork of some miscreants and took up investigation to ascertain the cause of burning of clothes and books. The villagers had a similar harrowing experience about three years ago when they lived in thatched houses and deserted the village. Several months later, they returned to the village after pucca houses were built for them.

Meanwhile, a fact-finding team of Jana Vignana Vedika led by State vice-president Viswanath and members Suresh Kumar, and Sudhakar visited the village. The burning incident might be due to the presence of phosphorous in the soil, Mr. Kumar said.
