Panhcayat’s member house, vehicles torched in post poll violence

A panchayat member’s house and his two vehicles were torched allegedly by ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) hooligans in Tripura in a post poll attack.

The incident took place in bordering Ragna Echirepar village under Dharmanagar sub-division in North Tripura on late Saturday .

Election for the second seat in Tripura, the last red bastion, took place on Saturday.

Faruk Mia, the elected Panchayat member and victim, alleged that his house and vehicles were torched by CPIM leaders.

“Last night I ran out after my house and was put on fire along with two of my vehicles. As I am a Congress supporter my opposition party CPIM supporters did this incident. Later my neighbours doused the fire,” Mia said.

He added that the fire fighters and police were late too intentionally as ruling party supporters were involved in the incident.

“These people, this house is of bona fide congressman and particularly the owner of this house is a congress Panchayat member. Before the election, all the CPM hooligans threatened them that join CPM, he rejected. He rejected hatefully (saying) no, I will not join CPM, I’ll do service, I’ll perform as a congress member. This is the result,” said, Bishwa Bandhu Sen, a congress leader who visited the victim’s house. (ANI)
