Panesar poised to complete Ashes comeback from `Weegate shame`

England bowler Monty Panesar has put his hand up for a shock Test recall, just months after a late night brush with the law. According to the Mirror, Panesar”s 2013 was in danger of becoming his annus horribilis following a caution for urinating on nightclub bouncers, followed by a cricket ban for aiming a kick at an opposition batsman. However, now he has put himself in the frame for an Ashes recall at Adelaide on a ground where two spinners could be the order of the day, the report said. Panesar took 3-41 from 19 beautiful overs while Graeme Swann collected 4-56 as the spin duo gave a timely reminder of the damage they can do together, even though the Chairman”s XI had the better of a draw declaring on 254-8, the report added.

Stand-in skipper Ian Bell said that he definitely thought Panesar was ready to play in a Test match. The options facing England are to play Gary Ballance at No.6 and make the batting as strong as possible, or give Ben Stokes the spot and replace Chris Tremlett with Panesar, according to the report.
