The Delhi government has decided to form committees of school principals for them to suggest ways to upgrade infrastructure and teaching standards in state-run city schools.
This decision was taken in a meeting of government school principals and officials of Education Directorate, and chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the charge of education department, a senior official said.
Last month, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with Sisodia had asked school principals and teachers to prepare a blueprint on how to convert their respective schools into model schools and submit them to Education Directorate.
A total of 110 principals of government schools have submitted their blueprints to the directorate which were discussed in the meeting today, the official said.
“Discussions were held on ways to improve infrastructure, upgrade teaching standards, curriculum support and other ways for betterment of schools. Inputs from principals about possible solutions for common problems faced by government schools were also recorded,” the official said.
Two important decisions were taken in the meeting, including formation of committees of principals to suggest ways to uplift infrastructure, teaching and other aspects of schooling in government schools, he said.
In another decision, the Directorate of Education was instructed to issue its notifications and other guidelines for government schools after consulting the school principals and teachers concerned.
As per the Delhi government plans, the blueprint submitted by the school principals will be implemented at their respective schools. Their success will be assessed after a year on the basis of academic performance and satisfaction level of parents of the school children, the official said.
Further meetings will be held to start a pilot project for improving schools. The pilot would be run in selected schools for a year and then based on results and feedback, it would be extended to more schools the following year, he said.
