A report on the alleged false information furnished by Minister for Wakf Qamarul Islam, to the House, on encroachment of wakf properties in different parts of the State by various leaders, was submitted by the Legislative Council Privileges Committee to Mr. D.H. Shankaramurthy, the Council chairman here on May 8.

Mr. G. Madhusudhan, chairman of the Committee submitted the report to Mr. Shankaramurthy. Mr. Islam was holding the wakf portfolio before it was given to Mr.R. Roshan Baig after his induction into the Cabinet.

Mr. Islam had provided incorrect answers to questions asked by MLCs Captain Ganesh Karnik and K. Monappa Bhandary, on July 29, last year, according to a press release. The matter was referred to the Privileges Committee after Opposition Chief Whip in the Council A.H. Shivayogiswamy moved a privilege motion against Mr. Islam, then in charge of Wakf affairs, for misleading the House by providing false information on the report related to encroachment of wakf properties.

After studying various files and the statement given by Mr. Islam on the floor of the House, the Legislative Council Privileges Committee prepared the report and submitted it to the Council Chairman.

Mr. Shankaramurthy said that the report will be presented in the next session of the House.

The former chairman of the Karnataka State Minorities Commission, headed by Mr. Anwar Manippady, submitted a report to the previous Bharatiya Janata Party government stating that the property belonging to wakf board had been encroached by politicians and real estate mafia.Courtesy:Karnataka Muslims
