Panel to study Scholarship Scheme

Hyderabad, May 02: The state government has constituted a committee of secretaries to study the Post-Matric Scholarships Scheme being implemented by departments such as social welfare, tribal welfare, BC welfare, disabled welfare and minorities welfare to make specific recommendations to the government for delivering the scheme in a most effective manner and to the highest satisfaction of the eligible students.

The committee consists of tribal welfare department special chief secretary, finance department secretary, social welfare department principal secretary and BC welfare department principal secretary.

The terms of reference of the committee of secretaries include identification of quality norms which shall be accomplished by each department in the implementation of the Post-Matric Scholarships Scheme, identification of constraints coming in the way of fulfillment of the quality norms and suggest measures to overcome them.

It will also suggest improvements to be made so as to make the current e-pass software as an end to end IT solution, evaluate the current fund flow mechanism, identify bottlenecks and suggest measures for smoothening the fund flow, so as to ensure that students receive into their bank account, maintenance fee within 30 days of joining in the educational institutions, subsequently on 1st of every month.

Similarly, it will suggest measures for releasing tuition fee to the educational institutions in two halfyearly installments promptly, project the requirement of funds in the next 5 years taking into consideration the growth rate in the number of students who become eligible for postmatric scholarship as per the present eligibility criteria, suggest changes in the eligibility criteria so as to bridge the gap between demand and supply, so that scholarship is disbursed in respect of every eligible student (Renewal or Fresh cases) promptly, without spillover to next academic year.

The committee shall submit their report to the government within 4 weeks.
