Panel begins probe into OMC activities

Anantapur, November 12: The three-member committee, constituted by the State Government to look into the alleged ‘‘illegal mining’’ and the ongoing battle between the Obulapuram Mining Corporation (OMC) owned by Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and the Bellary Mining Company (BMC), has examined all records pertaining to the entire mining activity in the Obulapuram area.

The committee, headed by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Vigilance) Sammireddy and comprising Additional Chief Conservators of Forests Omkar Singh and SDL Mishra, sat in the district Forest Officer Kallol Biswas’ office and examined the records, notices served by the department and other relevant material till late in the night.

The team is of the view that they should have an in-depth understanding of the issue before actually visiting the sites.

Meanwhile, Mines and Geology Department Joint Director K Shantappa, who was inspecting the controversial mines in Obulapuram in D Hirehall mandal, certified that the OMC borders were properly demarcated but that only some boundary stones were missing.
