Rajya Sabha member Palwai Goverdhan on Saturday expressed confidence that the Congress party would announce a favourable decision on the formation of Telangana State. He said that the party was seriously considering ways and means to find a solution to the Telangana issue.
Speaking on the occasion of his felicitation at Vasavi Kendra, Khairatabad, by Telangana Congress Monitoring Group on his elevation as Rajya Sabha member, Palwai Goverdhan said that the Congress party tied up with Telangana Rashtra Samithi in 2004 elections with the promise of the formation of Telangana state.
Admitting that the Telangana issue got delayed due to peculiar conditions that prevailed in the State, he said the Congress party would announce a favourable decision on the bifurcation of the State. He condemned media reports that UPA allies were against the formation of Telangana. Claiming that the UPA allies were in favour of separate Telangana, he said that he had appealed to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to save the party in the region by announcing her decision on the statehood soon.
Govardhan said that he would exert pressure on the high command by bringing all leaders under common platform to achieve Telangana state.
Newly elected Rajya Sabha member R Anand Bhaskar said that he would make complete efforts to achieve the separate Telangana state and his responsibility has increased following his elevation. (INN)
