Palvai Govardhan Reddy dies of stroke

Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha Member Palvai Govardhan Reddy died of heart attack in Kullu Manali in Himachal Pradesh, today. He was 81.

Reddy, who went to Kullu Manali to attend a Parliamentary committee meeting, suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced brought him dead.
Govardhan Reddy’s wife and Medak MP K Prabhakar Reddy were with him. A five-time MLA from Mahbubnagar district, Reddy was representing Telangana in Rajya Sabha since 2014 and served as a State minister twice during the 1980s.

Govardhan Reddy was born on November 19, 1936 in Nadimpally village under Anchampet mandal of Mahbubnagar District. He completed B.A. at VivekavardhiniCollege, Osmania University in the city. He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter. He had also served as president of NSUI during his campus days. He was secretary of AP Youth Congress during the tenure of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

He was member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly during 1967-1972, 1972-78, 1978-83, 1983-85 and 1999-2004. During 2007-09, he was elected Member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and served as Minister of State for Rural Water Supply, Youth Services and LIDCAP in then Bhavanam Venkatram Reddy cabinet in 1981 and Minister of State for Handlooms and Textiles, Sericulture, Printing & Stationery in Kotla Vijayabhasker Reddy cabinet.
