Union Minister for Human Resource Development Dr MM Pallam Raju met senior Congress leader K Keshav Rao here on Tuesday.
Both the leaders have reportedly discussed the latest political situation in the State. However, sources say that the union minister discussed the Telangana issue with Keshav Rao as the latter has set a deadline of December 9 for the Centre to decide on the statehood issue. The former PCC president reportedly informed Pallam Raju that he would be writing a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi asking her to resolve the matter latest by December 9.
It may be mentioned that the pro-Telangana parties have called for observing December 9 as the Cheating Day to mark the third anniversary of announcement made by the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram stating that the Centre would being the process of formation of Telangana State. However, citing objection from the leaders from other regions and lack of consensus, the Centre did not implement the decision.
The meeting assumes significance in view of reports that Keshava Rao was getting closer to Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao.
However, both the leaders did not disclose the details of what transpired between them. They also reportedly discussed the latest political situation in the State in view of MIM withdrawing support to the Congress government.
