Palestinians protest against Israeli measures in Jerusalem

Clashes broke out Friday between Palestinian protesters and Israeli soldiers in several West Bank towns when hundreds rallied in Gaza against the recent Israeli measures in Jerusalem.

Medics said that at least eight Palestinians were shot and injured Friday evening during clashes between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian stone throwers at an Israeli checkpoint in northern Jerusalem, Xinhua reported.

Hundreds of Palestinian protestors marching towards the checkpoint of Qalandia between Ramallah and Jerusalem clashed with the Israeli soldiers, who opened fire and wounded eight Palestinians, witnesses said.

Similar clashed erupted in other West Bank towns, where Israeli forces used tear gas to disperse the protesters and dozens were injured, according to paramedics.

In east Jerusalem, clashes also broke out after Friday’s prayers. The Israeli police reopened al-Aqsa Mosque in the old city for prayers Friday after closing it for one day on Thursday, the first time of closure since 2000.
