Palestinians pay homage to victims of Israeli attack

Dubai, June 03: Palestinians gathered in large numbers at the consulate in Dubai on Tuesday to stand in silence in memory of the heroes of the ‘Freedom Flotilla’, who died in the Israeli attack
on Sunday.

They said Israel had become a real danger to all countries of the world, as it did not respect international law. The harsh policy of starvation against the Palestinian people was killing innocents, they said, and described the attack on the ‘Freedom Flotilla’ as an act of terrorism.

They asked the UN Security Council to impose sanctions on Israel and force it to lift the siege on the people of Gaza. Consul-General Hussein Abdelkhaliq, who spoke on the occasion, prayed for the souls of the flotilla victims. Folk songs were sung by the audience in honour of the heroes.

“This act carried out by Israel against innocent people who came from Arab and foreign countries to support the Palestinians who have been under siege for the past three years, shows what piracy and terrorism mean. The incident will become a turning point internationally on how to deal with Israel in the future,” Abdelkhaliq said.

He added that the presence by Palestinian community in the UAE showed the spirit of solidarity. “I would like to thank the United Arab Emirates for the material and moral support for Palestine, by sending an aid convoy with the assistance of the Red Crescent to support Gaza Strip on Monday.”

Mohammad Okal expressed his sorrow over what happened, “Our presence here on this day is for the solidarity with the ‘Fleet of Freedom’. Our thoughts are with the families of those who were killed, and the wounded trying to break the siege on the Palestinian people. This massacre and loss will turn into a victory soon, God willing.”
