Palestinians on hunger strike to protest Israel demolishing their homes

Gaza, February 04: Residents of a small Palestinian village, including 10-year-old boy, have gone on hunger strike to draw international attention to their plight, Press TV reports.

Some 20 residents of Khirbat al-Tawil village, south of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, went on a 24-hour hunger strike on Friday to protest against Israel’s occupation of their lands.

Israel has been pushing forward with plans to demolish the homes of 18 families who live in Khirbat al-Tawil.

On January 17, the villagers received a seventh and final warning to leave the area.

A new report released by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ (OCHA) said that the number of Palestinian homes ruined by Israel in the West Bank dramatically increased in 2011.

According to the report, more than 1,100 Palestinians in the West Bank, including children and women, were displaced last year — an 80 percent increase from 2010 — due to demolition of their homes by Israelis.

The report echoes a recent statement released by over 20 groups, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and Oxfam International at the end of 2011.
