Pakistani woman causes 17 deaths of family members to get rid of arranged marriage

Multan: A Pakistani woman by name, Aasia Bibi was married to her relative by her parents against her wish. She tried her level best to break the marital bonds but failed to do so.

Vexed with this, she decided to kill her husband. She mixed poison in the milk and offered him. However, fortunately, he refused to drink it.

Later, her mother-in-law mixed the poisoned milk by mistake and prepared lassi which was served to 27 family members. All of them lost their consciousness. They were shifted to hospital. Seventeen of them died and 10 are still undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Aasia was made responsible for these deaths. She was produced in the Muzaffargarh court on Tuesday.

Talking to the reports, she denied the charges of deaths and expressed her regret. However, she accepted that she had mixed poison in the milk to kill her husband.

Narrating the events which took place for her marriage, she said that her parents had arranged her marriage with a relative without her consent.

She further said that as per Islamic Shariat, she has the right to choose her husband which was denied by her parents. She wanted to take divorce which was also rejected.

Frustrated with this, she contacted her beau, Shahid Lashari who arranged poison. He had promised to marry her after the death of her husband.

Police arrested Aasia and Lashari on murder charges.
