Explaining the reason behind their rebellion against the state, the Pakistani Taliban is said to have sought ‘fatwa’ against democracy and army rule by Pakistani clerics.
Sources say that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has written a letter to senior clerics of the country asking how the members of parliament can be called Muslims if they had failed to legislate for enforcement of Shariah. The letter also mentioned killings of the “mujahideen” by the army. The banned outfit justified their movement by saying that it was fighting for enforcement of God’s law in Pakistan.
The TTP also deplored clerics silence while the government is publicly acknowledging being a “front-line ally of America and NATO”.
TTP also admitted that they had provided shelter to Uzbek, Arab, Chechen and other militants after the U.S.-led bombings ousted the government of Mullah Muhammad Omar in late 2001 in Afghanistan.
