Pakistani soldier killed in Afghan border clash

Miranshah, February 03: At least one security official died and three others were seriously injured on Wednesday as a result of heavy firing from Afghanistan on a Pakistani security checkpoint in Bangi Dar, a border area near Ghulam Khan in North Waziristan Agency.

Local officials in Miranshah told Daily Times on the condition of anonymity that more than a dozen mortars were fired from Afghan side on Bangi Dara at a security checkpost, which injured three security personnel while one died on the way to Miranshah.

Independent local sources confirmed the incident and added that another two mortars were also fired on Tuesday night at a fort in Ghulam Khan on the Pak-Afghan border but no loss of life was reported. Pakistani troops deployed at the border area fired back but no loss of life was reported until the filing of this report.

Miranshah residents said that such incidents of firing across the border had become a routine and sometimes people living on the border had to suffer huge losses of life.

Seven people, including four women and two children, were killed in a similar incident last month in Spinwam tehsil of Gulab Khel.
