Pakistani releases nine Indian fishermen

Vadodara, December 31: The Pakistani Marine Security Agency (PMSA) has released nine fishermen, who were detained for straying in international waters.

The move of the agency came as a surprise to the fishermen as they were detained three days ago and were released last night.

The fishermen who are detained by the PMSA are made to languish in the jails for a couple of years before their release.

The release of these fishermen comes in the wake of neighbouring Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani deciding to release 100 out of the 631 Indian fishermen languishing in the Pakistani jails since December 26 last.

Ten Indian fishermen were detained and two of their boats seized by the PMSA for straying in Pakistani waters. Soon after their arrival at Porbandar, one of the detained fisherman Mahesh Babu Bamaniya told a news agency that “PMSA’s approach was humanitarian towards them.”
