Pakistani actress Meera faces a lawsuit for her alleged abortion as it is considered illegal by Muhammad Islam, a resident of Pakistan.
The petition was filed by Islam who in his plea asked the police to probe the matter. Additional District Judge and Sessions Judge Muhammad Ayub Khan admitted that the petition was filed.
Islam filed a plea on basis of a news report which said that the actress recently had an abortion. He raised an issue that since Meera claimed to be a virgin, the abortion was ‘illegal and un-Islamic’.
In his plea, he asked court to direct the officials to register a case against the actress under ‘Hudood Ordinance’, a law came into force in 1979 to punish for the offences like extra-marital sex and drinking alcohol.
After hearing Islam’s counsel, Judge directed police to start an investigation and submit a report to the court by April 23.
