Pakistan to take up dam water release issue with India

A two-day national conference held to review monsoon preparedness has concluded that the Pakistan Commission for Indus Water will take up the dam water release issue with India.

Major General Muhammad Saeed Aleem, the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), said Pakistan has suffered a huge loss due to the sudden release of dam water by India, though, India had been compelled under the Indus Water Treaty to inform Pakistan before taking such moves.

Repair works on flood protection structures have almost come to an end.

Around 50 districts in Pakistan had been marked as prone to rains and flash floods, reports the Dawn.

The NDMA chief said in a statement that an unusual weather phenomenon could develop suddenly, and that this was not surprising.

The national flood protection plan is expected to be ready this year that would further decrease flood losses, the NDMA chief further said. (ANI)
