Islamabad: Pakistan on Monday handed over to the High Commission of India a list of 261 Indian prisoners lodged in the country’s jails.
According to a statement by Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Indian prisoners include 209 fishermen and 52 others.
“This step is consistent with the provisions of the consular access agreement between Pakistan and India, signed on May 21, 2008, under which both countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody twice a year, on Jan. 1 and July 1, respectively,” said the statement.
The Indian government will also share the list of Pakistani prisoners with the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi, the statement added.
