CHENNAI/ISLAMABAD: Tensions between India and Pakistan seems never ending with either of the countries creating controversies over time.
The Pakistan Post commemorating slain terrorists in India have issued 20 postage stamps with terrorist portraits and some other portraits as
“victims of atrocities by Indian troops in Kashmir,” TOI reports.
These stamps were issued from Pakistan Post headquarters in Karachi on July 24 while Philately Bureau, issued it on ‘Kashmir’s Martyrs Day’ to express Pakistan’s solidarity to Kashmiris in their fight against Indian oppression and to highlight the plight Kashmiris in India said a senior official of Pakistan Post.
These postal stamps also carry captions like ‘use of chemical weapons’, ‘use of pellet guns’, ‘mass graves’, ‘braid chopping’ and ‘Burhan Wani (1994-2016) freedom icon’ and these postal stamps are also on sale on e-Bay and few other online trading sites.
But Philatelists are not happy with this move. “It is nothing but an attempt by the neighbouring country to malign our country’s image. I am a philatelist for more than two decades, but I have never come across such stamps that are a distortion of facts. The postal departments issue commemoration stamps to popularise their culture and uniqueness, but this is in poor taste,” said philatelist C Tamilvannan.
While Jagannath Mani, a life member of Philately Congress of India said the stamps are used to mislead people.
“The government of India should convey its objections and the Pakistan government should withdraw the stamps,” he said, adding that he would also write to the external affairs ministry to take action against this issue.
