Pakistan can respond ‘befittingly’ to Indian actions on border, says its defence minister

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said Thursday that his country is capable of responding ‘befittingly’ to actions by Indian forces at the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC).

In a statement, he said, “We do not want the situation on the borders of two nuclear neighbours to escalate into confrontation. India must demonstrate caution and behave with responsibility.”

Pakistan alleges that the firing by the Indian forces has been unprovoked and claims that 12 people have been killed in the firing, with a further 43 injured since the ceasefire violations began.

Asif’s statement came hours after his India n counterpart Arun Jaitley had warned that if Pakistan continued to violate the ceasefire, then they would have to pay an ‘unaffordable’ price.

“If Pakistan persists with this adventurism, then our forces will continue to fight, and the cost of this adventurism will be unaffordable,” Jaitley had said.

Meanwhile, Pakistani troops, firing along the International Border last night, injured eight persons, including three BSF jawans.

Almost the whole stretch of the International Border, including Samba, Hiranagar, Ramgarh, Arnia, R S Pura, Kanachak and Pargwal has been affected by the firing. (ANI)
