Pakistan asks Taliban to leave the country

Islamabad, June 22 : Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik has warned the Taliban to leave the country, since the government will not rest until the last one was eliminated from the country’s soil.

Talking to reporters here last evening, Mr Malik said Taliban were neither Muslims nor Pakistanis. The nation had already said ‘no’ to the outfit and now they must leave Pakistan, he added.

The Interior Minister said the entire nation was ready to defend the country against terrorism and the days of the Taliban were numbered. He maintained that terrorists wanted Pakistan to disintegrate and the government would never let that happen.

The Minister said a United Nations investigation team would visit Pakistan next month to probe the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. The team would present its report within six months, he added.

Bhutto was assassinated in a gun and suicide attack during an election rally in the garrison town of Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007.

The previous government accused Taliban warlord Baitullah Mehsud of masterminding the attack. Mehsud denied the accusation saying he did not target women.

But Qari Zain-ud-din, who parted ways with the Taliban warlord, said recently that Mehsud ordered the assassination and sent two men to Rawalpindi in 2007 to accomplish the task.
