Islamabad, May 24: Pakistani security forces say they have arrested Taliban’s key commander along with three accomplices in the northwest province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Abu al-Hassan — also known as Tariq — was detained late on Monday, following a raid on his house in Akora Khattak area of Nowshera district, a Press TV report said.
Authorities say Tariq has been giving logistic support to the Taliban and has supplied the militant group with explosives.
During investigations, Abu al-Hassan revealed that he had been trained in Waziristan, Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region, and had been involved in different terrorism activities.
Also on Tuesday, security forces said they killed at least eight militants, after pounding their hideouts in Mohmand tribal region near the border with Afghanistan.
The militants responded to the attack with gun-fire, killing at least two Pakistani soldiers, a Media correspondent said.
Over 18 troops and 12 militants were also wounded in the ensuing clashes.
There has been no official confirmation of the incident.
Despite an offensive by the Pakistani government against pro-Taliban militants, they have spread their influence in various regions, killing people and security forces every day.
