Islamabad, July 25: Police in Pakistan has formally arrested a former lawmaker in the kidnapping and killing case of a polish engineer, it was revealed here on Saturday.
Former Member of National Assembly (MNA), Shah Abdul Aziz, has been formally arrested after the main Taliban suspect, currently in police custody, accused him as masterminding the kidnapping of Polish engineer, Piotr Stancza.
Stancza was kidnapped on September 28 last year from the city of Attock in Punjab province. He had been based there for a Polish survey company searching for natural gas. Taliban had placed certain demands in exchange of his release. However, when the government failed to meet up those demands, they executed him earlier this year.
The Islamabad Police arrested a Taliban suspect Attaullah last week in a raid on his hideout and recovered explosive material from his possession. In his statement in front of the court magistrate, according to local Ajj news channel, Attaullah claimed that he kidnapped and executed the police engineer at the orders of MNA Shah Abdul Aziz. Shah Abdul Aziz was for the first time elected MNA in 2002 elections. He played the role of mediator between the government and the Lal Mosque administrators during the July 2007 military operation.
His arrest surfaced only a day after his family complained that he has been missing since May 27, when he visited Islamabad to meet former Lal Mosque administrator, Abdul Aziz.
