Ahmedabad: Pakistani Marine Security Agency (MSA) today apprehended around 70 fishermen and seized their 11 boats from international waters off Jakhau coast of Gujarat, fishermen association said here.
“Pakistani MSA has today apprehended 70 fishermen from international waters off Jakhau,” National Fishworkers Forum secretary Manish Lodhari said.
“The fishermen were in 12 boats, but one of the boats somehow caught fire and drowned during the MSA operation. We don’t know the reason on how it happened. Fishermen of the drowned boat were rescued. They have seized 11 boats and are taking the boats and men towards Karachi,” he said.
The incident took place this morning and the association came to know about it from other fishermen who were fishing nearby, Lodhari said.
The Indian Coast Guard and police have been informed about the incident, he added.
