Pak suspends TV channel ARY News for defaming judiciary

Pakistan has suspended the license of a local TV channel for a period of 15 days for allegedly airing a defamatory program against the judiciary.

According to the BBC, ARY News TV was also fined 10m rupees (97,089 dollars) by broadcasting regulator Pemra.

Pemra said in a statement that ARY News had been “maligning honourable courts and judiciary”.

This is the second such incident in a span of four months when Pemra has suspended a TV channel.

Earlier, regulators had stopped broadcasts by Pakistan’s most watched news channel- GEO TV- for defaming the country’s army and powerful ISI . (ANI)
