New Delhi, Nov 16: Acting on information provided by the alleged spy, who was arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Airport after a lookout notice was issued against him, a team of Delhi Police Special Cell sleuths went to Lucknow to unearth the sequence of events.
According to police sources, after the accused Mohammed Sayeed Ali (name on passport recovered) alias Abdul Razzak was taken into police custody, the Delhi Police came to know that he reportedly procured his fake passport from Lucknow.
Confirming the arrest, Union Home Secretary G K Pillai told the mediapersons: “One Pakistani spy was arrested at IGI airport.”
“The accused has revealed some information in his interrogation and we are hopeful that a result will come out soon,” the police sources said.
Ali was detained at the Delhi airport for possessing a fake passport by the Immigration department on November 12.
After his search and initial interrogation at the airport, some defence-related restricted documents and pictures of few important installations were allegedly found from his possession.
“After his arrest, he was handed over to the Delhi Police and the Special Cell was informed about it. A case under Official Secrets Act was also lodged against him with the Delhi Police,” a senior police officer said.
The police sources said that pictures of Delhi cantonment and Meerut cantonment area have been reportedly found from his possession.
“Ali who is believed to be hailing from Karachi in Pakistan was about to board a flight to Dammam in Saudi Arabia when he was detained by the Immigration officials,” the police officer said. “A lookout notice was issued against him, which alerted us and he was apprehended.”
He was produced in a city court and sent to police custody for ten days.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Operations) Satyendra Garg, meanwhile, said they are not aware of any such incident.
The Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P N Aggarwal said, “We can’t reveal anything in connection with this as it could affect our operations.”
