Islamabad, February 10: Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Friday rejected Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s appeal against its order summoning him for framing of charges in a contempt of court case for refusing to revive the cases of alleged money laundering against President Asif Ali Zardari.
The Prime Minister’s lawyer says Gilani will appear in Supreme Court on February 13 to face contempt charges.
The court’s decision could bring fresh political turmoil to the chronically unstable country.
“The appeal is dismissed,” Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said in court, reading the decision of the eight-member bench.
On Thursday the court said contempt of court proceedings against Gilani would automatically end if the chief executive wrote a letter to Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against Zardari.
