Pak NYT correspondent’s house raid not a ‘target’ raid, say police

Islamabad : The move to search the house of New York Times Correspondent Salman Masood has been claimed by the police to be a part of search operation carried out in Loi Bher, Sihala areas rather than a targeted one.

Masood explained that a man in plain clothes accompanied by Rangers personnel and a police officer wanted to search his house without a search warrant, reported the Dawn.

Masood also tweeted that he was asked if he ‘had any illegal weapons hidden in the house.’

An Islamabad police official, however, confirmed that the search operation carried out in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Islamabad was not a targeted one and several houses were searched within that area.

Islamabad police later released details of search operations conducted earlier, and confirmed that 25 suspects, including two Afghan nationals, had been detained during the search operation across the Sihala and Loi Bher areas.(ANI)
